MATCH
REPORT, Grand Final.
21/09/03 LAVINGTON V’S YARRAWONGA Sunday 21st september 2003,
Grand
final day for the O&M league, and Lavington Panthers were proudly represented
by the B grade netball team. For the first time in 4 weeks the sun was out for
the girls, adding to the excitement and nerves of the day. The match started out
as a tight encounter with both teams having to work hard for their goals. The
half time score showed Yarrawonga with a strong 12 goal lead. The panther girls
used the break to regroup and rehydrate with plenty of water and ice being needed.
Despite giving everything in the second half, the panther girls could not contain
a very talented and very determined Yarrawonga side, with them eventually running
out comfortable winners. Though outclassed by a better team on the day, the fighting
spirit and the trust the girls had shown in each other throughout the season was
not lost. Despite this disappointing loss, it is certain that the girls will take
the experience and knowledge gained with them into next season. Bring on 2004!
MATCH REPORT, Preliminary Final.
Wn awesome
performance against Wodonga Raiders in the preliminary final now sees the B
grade girls in the GRAND FINAL!! The girls went into the match very motivated
to win and showed that if you play with determination and courage the rewards
will come your way.
The game started off goal for goal, and looked like it might be a repeat of other
close matches between the two teams, however a strong second quarter saw our girls
go into half time with a handy lead. The team played a brilliant second half which
saw them extend their lead, going on to win comfortably by 12 goals.
The
final scores were Lavington 48 to Raiders 36. The entire team showed great
team spirit and played fantastically from the defence, through the centre
court and into the attacking end.
The girls today meet an undefeated Yarrawonga
side, but have nothing to lose and will give everything to try and bring home
a premiership for the panthers!! Once again a huge thanks to all who travelled
to Wang to support us in what were atrocious conditions, we look forward to seeing
(and hearing) everyone at the netty today in
what should be a great match,
and invite all supporters back to the LSC afterwards in what will hopefully be
a celebration!!
A great result also for the girls at the Morris Medal night. A big Congratulations
to Jacqui Klemke and Sheri Parkhouse from A grade, Sarah Senini
from B grade and Kelsey Corey from C grade who all finished in the top
5 in their respective
grades. Well done girls!!
Thanks also to our major
sponsors this year in The Lavington Panthers Sports Club, Forty Winks, Tru Floor
Carpet Choice & Bordertown Meats, your support is greatly appreciated.
MATCH REPORT, FINALS, WEEK 2.
Well after the second week of finals, there is just one netball team flying
the Panthers flag.
The
B grade went down to Yarrawonga on Saturday in atrocious conditons, however
have another chance to play off for a place in the grand final. Despite losing
by huge margins to them both times during the season, the girls were determined
they could match Yarra and did so for most of the game. Yarrawonga maintained
a 3-4 goal lead for most of the match, despite some comeback attempts by the panthers,
and
pulled the lead out to 8 during the last quarter. Time ran out on the
girls, going down by 8 goals. The final scores were Lavington 45 to Yarrawonga
54, showing that they are a definite flag contender, Sallyann Ryan and
Karlie Parker both
played fantastic games for the panthers.
The A
grade girls were not able to secure the second chance, and after a disappointing
loss to Myrtleford on Sunday are now out of the finals race. The match was great
to watch, with both teams playing determined netball. As a result the lead see-sawed
many times throughout the match. Unfortunately Myrtleford were able to settle
in the last quarter holding on to win 52 goals to Lavington 46 Jacqui Klemke
played an inspirational game in goals while Sheridan Alston played tough
defensive netball for the panthers. Congratulations to both the A grade and C
grade teams on a fantastic year!! Once again thankyou to everyone for their support
over the weekend, it is greatly appreciated by the girls. We look forward to seeing
everyone on Sunday at Wangaratta as the B grade girls play off against Wodonga
Raiders for a place in the grand final!!
MATCH
REPORT, FINALS, WEEK 1
After
the first week of the finals the netballers still have two teams fighting it out.
The B grade girls advanced to the next round after a close 1 goal
win over the Wodonga Raiders on Saturday. Lavington jumped out to a narrow lead
in the first half, and had to hold off a determined raiders side who fought back
hard in the second half. However the girls showed great courage and proved that
they wanted the game more holding on in the dying minutes to win. The final scores
were Lavington 40 to Raiders 39 with Marnie Plummer in defence and Karlie
Parker in goals both having great games.
The
girls now meet an undefeated Yarrawonga side with the winner to move into the
GF.
The
C grade girls unfortunately have bowed out of the finals after a 13 goal
loss at the hands of Yarrawonga on Sunday. In terrible conditions the girls fought
hard to gain a marginal lead, however the second half saw Yarrawonga play the
better netball to fight back and take the game. Tiegan Murphy and Ali Pierpoint
both had strong games in defence, with the final scores being Yarrawonga 40
to Lavington 27.
The A grade elimination final on Sunday was played in better conditions
than the C grade game, with a much better result also. The girls worked hard in
the first half and went into half time 6 goals ahead, they then played settled
and disciplined netball to maintain that lead for the second half. Sheri Parkhouse
played brilliantly in defence making intercept after intercept, ensuring that
Albury only scored one goal for the entire last quarter, while Jacqui Klemke
worked hard to convert in goals. The girls held on to win by 11 goals with the
final score being Lavington 39 to Albury 28.
A
big thanks to everyone who came and supported on the weekend, the girls appreciate
it, especially considering the conditions!! We look forward to seeing everyone
at Nth Albury on Saturday when B grade take on Yarrawonga, and again at Wangaratta
on Sunday when the A Grade meet Myrtleford.
MATCH
REPORT, ROUND 18, 2003
The
netballers finished off the season with 2/3 wins, seeing all three teams
make the finals for the first time in a long while.
The match of the
day had to be the A grade, which saw our girls play one of their best matches
of the season to upset the 1st placed Wodonga Bulldogs. The girls played tough,
disciplined netball from the start which saw them establish a tight lead going
into the last quarter. Emma Dallinger & Sheri Parkhouse both played fantastic
games in defence and consistently turned over the ball allowing the girls to hold
on and
win by 2 goals. The final score was Lavington 33 to Wodonga 31.
The B grade were looking for a win heading in to finals, and
played well, but on the day Wodonga had more to play for. The entire game was
tight, but a fired up Bulldogs team held on to win by 4 goals. Final scores were
Wodonga 43 to Lavington 39, with Tamara Mathews & Sarah Senini named
best players. However
the girls still hold on to the second chance going
into the finals.
The C grade finished off the season with a hard
fought win. The girls had a fairly handy lead but managed to fight off a determined
Wodonga side who came back in the last quarter. The final score was Lavington
40 to Bulldogs 39.
Jodie Evans & Ali Pierpoint both had great
games.
A big thankyou must go to everyone who has helped out and
supported
us during the season, we look forward to your continued support
as we head into finals. Good luck girls!!
